Boondocking (“dispersed camping”) in the American Southwest is central to my way of life. Not only is it peaceful being away from humans, but it frugality of it underpins my early retirement.
I designed/built the camper to support full time boondocking. The central piece is an overpaneled solar power system. Depending on loads and conditions it makes:
- 1 kW/day - marginal conditions, reduced loads
- 1.79 kW/day - average daily harvest going back to installation in 20171
- 2+ kW/day - good conditions to support opportunity loads like cooking with electricity
The other major piece is a 35-gal freshwater tank which supports up to 30 days of boondocking (I am usually out for 14d then relocate/reprovision).
