backchannel: a BMS does not prevent overcharge
Update: I stand corrected. Some makers of some drop-in batts have quietly added undocumented forms of Full Charge Protection (FCP). And it’s causing weirdness. See this thread and others like it on Will’s forum. – jc
Bms should protect it from over charge
The BMS doesn’t know anything about overcharge. It can identify cell or pack overvoltage but that’s not the only way to overcharge.
Let’s say 3.65Vpc is the cell overvoltage cutoff. If you hold the cells at 100% SoC but lower than 3.65Vpc it will overcharge the cells..
