rain, fog, and this partial canopy
original setup
It was a record-breaking heat couple of days when I first got here. I set up the van where it would get full sun in the morning and partial shade in the afternoon.
afternoon rains
Then it started raining. Stereotypically for summer monsoons it was clear in the morning and rained all afternoon. This was OK because I was getting enough sun in the morning
all-day rains and fog
Fog came in Monday night and stayed all yesterday. Yield on those two days was in the 1.5kWh range. Good enough to cover the necessities but electric cooking was driving SoC lower and lower. This morning I was at 19% / 12.91v just before sun-up.
I had a couple options:
- deploy the 200w portable array in a sunny area; or
- move the rig to an open area about 100ft away where there would be no afternoon shade
Temps will be moderate for the remainder of my stay so either one would have worked. I deployed the portables at around 1130. Mostly cloudy now but hasn’t rained yet. I’ll be happy if the combined arrays can get SoC up to 70%.
