relo to Los Alamos

following the weather

Although it was chilly this week in SFE two things were about to happen:

  1. temps were going to be 80+ next week
  2. and I needed to be emplaced before the long weekend (Memorial Day)

So I did my final errands (laundry, fuel, reprovisioning) and headed up to Los Alamos yesterday. Both my free water sources in SFE were unavailable (one broken, one padlocked) so I stopped in White Rock at the visitors center where they have a potable spigot.

new camp outside Los Alamos

I picked a spot that has full sun only in the morning and deployed the cheap portables where they will get sun in the afternoon.

Since my site is at the end of a trail I wasn’t worried about where I ran the wiring. Ranger came through today and drove over them so I guess I’ll have to move them. :-(

I notified my forwarder that I’m in Los Alamos so my mail will head here tomorrow.

micro-improvements

I had a small drop light fixture I’d picked up for a (failed) heat lamp experiment over the winter. It was mainly in the way until I realized I could put a regular bulb in it and use it near the bed. I wanted to be able to read, etc, with gentle light. So I picked up some soft white “40W” bulbs at wally world and deployed it. It’s a nice upgrade because I have soft light where I want it for about the same power consumption as the LED strip.

where to next?

I think the Taos / Angel Fire area. Then maybe southern Colorado. The weather forecast will be dispositive.
