backchannel: doubling down on solar confusion

from this reddit thread

that’s not it it works

…you need to match your panel and your controller when you buy them

Yeah obviously I did that. The problem is not that they are mismatched but that the panel is not regulating properly. Like I said in the first sentence “It should be putting out 18V, but it’s putting out more than 21V in full sun.”

You’re not the first person to respond this way though. Maybe you can help me understand your confusion? How could I possibly have been any more clear that the problem is that the panel is exceeding its listed voltage due to poor regulation, and how could I possibly be more clear that I’m looking for a recommendation of an inline regulator? Seriously how am I failing so badly to communicate that?

Another case of people who don’t understand the situation asking for help then arguing with the people who do understand.

OP did not match the panel and controller because they didn’t understand the specs.

I don’t need any help comprehending the electrical here. I’m actually an electrician.

Quelle surprise. This happens rather frequently with commercial & residential electricians dabbling in van solar and 12vdc.

for the curious

18v is likely Vmp and >21v is likely Voc. We don’t know for sure because helpers are left to guess what hardware OP has.

update

OP has been stubbornly refusing to understand in multiple subreddits over several days.
