ally again
Last week I tried to Zelle my sister and it wouldn’t work. Fine. I moved my Zelle over to another bank, where it also didn’t work. Whatever, I’ll figure it out later.
Today I logged into ally to ensure those accounts were ready to pay my CC bill on the 15th:
We’re unable to process your request at this time
with no other info available.
I dorked around long enough and finally got it to trigger a more informative error message:
We are unable to process your request. Your account is suspended from making non-Ally transfers
WTF, ally?
On the phone with them right now to see what the issue is.
…
Turns out they saw that an account at Chase that isn’t even linked to my Ally account was closed in 2020 so they disabled transfers on the one that is linked to Chase. I think Ally and Chase just hate each other and I am caught in between.
While on the call I also tried to move money internally from savings to the spending account to pay the CC and even that was forbidden:
We’re unable to process your request at this time
CS was surprised the external xfer suspension was also messing up internal xfer, but here we are. The rep manually transferred the funds (I could confirm the new balances in the browser), but it will make little difference if the external xfer fails on the 15th. .
Will update with the next installment of the Ally-Chase Tales of Clusterfuckery.
non-update Nov 13
No change. Set up my third bank’s info to see if I can pay CC from there on the 14th (tomorrow). If that fails and Ally doesn’t fix their shizz by the 15th I’ll have to drive to the nearest town with a Chase bank (El Paso), withdraw cash, and pay the CC in person at a branch.
Update 6pm: “We’ve completed our review and have restored your access to Zelle® and External Transfers.” Cool. Even cooler would y’all not disabling access in the first place.
