assessing use of electric for cooking in March
I prefer to cook over gas but:
- the state of Texas railroad commission approved a big increase in the transport fee
- gas sheds more heat into the kitchen. In the winter this side effect is “free” since I’d be heating with gas anyhow. In the summer, though, induction cooking will mean a cooler kitchen.
So for the month of March I cooked on my thrift store induction cooktop rather than on the gas range. My gas bill dropped from $54.44 to $47.20.
My electric bill was $28.78. We’ll see what that rises to. A complicating factor is the evaporative cooler came online in the last week of March; the pump and fan motor don’t consume a lot of power but they do consume some. Will update as see the March electric bill.
