My 14d here is up on Friday but I’m looking at leaving Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.

errands in Beulah, CO

I have an amazon pickup and a general delivery pickup on the way down the mountain. Both open at 8am (hence Thurs AM) and close at 4ppm (hence Wednesday afternoon). I’ll be ready by noon on Wednesday so I can make either move. Part of it depends on when the Amazon package is actually delivered.

cool dip

The coolest day in the Wed-Fri range is going to be Thursday, so Thursday is when I want to be in town doing major reprovisioning. There’s a Supah Wally World in Trinidad and it’s overnight friendly. Also a rest area in Raton across the NM border in case I want to drive a little more.

routes

I have a few routes in mind but the likeliest is ~Pueblo -> reprovisioning and possible overnight in Trinidad, CO -> Taos

after Taos

Looks like the 10-day for SFE is still bumping into 80F, so I suspect I’ll stop in Los Alamos on the way. That’d put me in SFE in mid October.

preparing to break camp

I started casually picking up the site. Probably would have packed the portable panels but it started raining.

Made a shim for the receiver hitch for a tighter fit. Picked up water catchment.

normal wintering or start the bucket list trip?

I have appointments at the VA in El Paso mid-December but after that I am free to move about the country, as Southwest used to say.

I’ve been staying in ELP in recent years due to budget-driven austerity, but that’s no longer such a big factor. I could:

  • stay in ELP as I’ve done recently
  • head to Arizona as I’ve traditionally done (try out an LTVA, maybe?)
  • or start a Great Loop bucket list adventure.

I’m not sure I’m ready for the Loop yet. I’d like to revisit it and the logistics over time. Leaning toward AZ. I’d really like to spend more time in Nevada come spring and summer, if I can find sufficient altitude.
