Note: started this on Wednesday but fleshed it out on Thursday after finding a sketchy site in the Boulder-Denver area.

Lots of moving parts on this relo:

leaving this mountain spot

My right rear tire is low. I aired it up with the compressor and tried to find a leak with soapy water; no luck.

tire shop

Found an auto shop on the way down the mountain that opened at 0730. Timed my arrival to arrive just before opening. Took about 1.5hours to get me in but it turned out to be a loose valve core. Annoyed at myself for missing that. No charge.

general delivery in Cascade

Stopped in to get my GD at the Cascade USPS. Countercritter was pleasant but the postmaster (?) jumped in and was a little obnoxious. She gets her way – I’m not using that PO again.

colorado springs

walmart run

Made it into CS proper. Got a later start than I wanted because of the 1.5 tire stopover but it was still in the 70s. I tapped into the WM wifi to update / DL everything while I was shopping. The last bit of media came down as I was finishing putting up the groceries.

Notable purchases: 20lb bag of rice, 5lb bag of sushi rice, and some perishables (cheese, 2x boudin, giant Parmesan for pao, 1.5 dozen eggs, tater tots, chicken fajita meat, etc). The fridge is full but not crammed. Also bought some household goods. $180, my biggest WM purchase in a long time.

planet fitness

Got a warm shower and a gallon of fresh water

gas and water

The Murphy near the WM had a water spigot and sub-$3 gas so I filled up both.

chase bank and cyclegear

OK, full disclosure. I am going to look at a used scooter in Denver on Sunday. I’ve been doing the reading/searching and if this one fits me (ergonomically) I’ll probably get it.

So I needed a hitch carrier and the cash with which to make the deal. I can always redeposit the cash and use the carrier for another bike down the road if this one doesn’t work out.

More on this if it comes to fruition.

picked up UPS package

Picked up a UPS delivery from The Mail Center, highly recommended. Pleasant and professional in both email and person and a $5 pickup fee. These guys will be my go-to when passing through Colo Springs. There was a locksmith a few steps away; I was going to have them cut/program some spare keys for me but the auto key guy was off. I’ll do it when I come back through CS when it starts to cool down.

boondocking outside denver

Getting to the area late stressed me out, and the first site I tried was unsuitable for campervans. Also zero Verizon and AT&T signal.

I bailed to a dicey pull-out nearer Idaho Springs. Planning to stay until Sunday morning when I head into Denver if the rangers don’t object. After that I’ll relo somewhere more suitable. Gotta assemble and install the carrier.

errands in Denver

  • check out the scoot
  • pick up amazon order from locker
  • planet fitness

The amazon order contains:

  • reloading stuff - Lee .38 and .357 trimming gauges
  • generic bike stuff: another $10 BT OBD dongle like the one I have for the van, a bike-to-obdii adapter, SAE leads to maintain a bike battery or run heated gear, a hitch stabilizer

I’d probably run 12v from the house battery to the SAE instead of investing in a separate maintainer. Will ponder.
