preparing for the relo from ABQ to SFE

logistics of starter battery replacement

I was originally going to replace the starter batt in SFE, but it was dead enough in this morning’s testing that I’m going to stop at a super walmart on the way down the hill. I want to do it early enough in the morning that it’s still cool in town at 4,500ft or whatever.

Plus it’ll get a stiff charge while driving the ~hour up to SFE.

windshield wiper replacement

My windshield wiper tests showed a clear winner, so I sourced a beam style wiper for the passenger side last week. I replaced the under-performing “hybrid” with the beam this morning. The hybrid was floppy feeling, which explains why it wasn’t conforming well to the shape of the windshield. I compared this with the driver’s beam which still felt full strength (and performs perfectly_ after 4 years of use. I didn’t replace it.

Part numbers for the Promaster:

  • 26” driver side - Rain-X B-26-1
  • 22” passenger side - Rain-X B-22-1

Found them at walmart.

prepped vehicle for early departure

Picked up most of camp, stowed stuff securely for transport. Will hit the road after the sun comes up.

Cleaned out the fridge. I line the bottom with foil then a layer of paper towels just in case there are leaks/spills. Easy peasy switch-out.

change of plans

The evening forecast started showing showers, which could end up with me

  1. stuck in tacky mud
  2. with a dead starter battery

I didn’t love that idea so I packed up and headed out

Picked up the AGM starter batt at walmart for ~$180 and installed it in the parking lot. It started the V6 with no drama.

Headed to the nearest PF for a shower and wifi downloads; neither were particularly successful. At least I’m clean. As I stepped out of the PF I felt rain starting; the change of plans was justified it seems.
