shooting on BLM land at the next spot
My next spot has two unofficial “ranges”. Last time I was there I picked up a good bit of brass to recycle for pocket money. This year I’ll continue load development with shooting and test drive the low-end chrono.
.380acp case
I bought a 50-round case for .380 handloads. It was labeled for 9mm and .380acp but is actually a bit tall for .380.
There’s enough headspace (if you will) for the 0.960 OAL rounds to rise up out of their cells and tumble around. That’s suboptimal, to be sure, but in this case it had a particularly annoying effect.
I’d made up
- 6 rounds of 100gr Berry’s RN over 2.8gr of win231
- 3 rounds of 102gr Golden Saber over 3.1gr win231
- 3 rounds of 102gr Golden Saber over 3.3gr win231
The Berry’s and GS are easy to tell apart, but the two GS loadings are indistinguishable. I’ll probably need to remake those unless I get lucky and see 3 & 3 fps readings on the chrono. According to Gordon’s there should be ~40fps difference between the two. Not sure if my ‘loading as a beginner is accurate enough to allow a 40fps difference to reveal itself.
I cut a little piece of foam to place under the lid so everybody stays in their proper place. Plus no rattling.
