rethinking a composting toilet

When I was in the planning stages I was pretty sure I wanted a composting toilet.   I was sure enough that I put in a price alert that just triggered.

I’ve been thinking about it off/on for a while and I’ve been pretty happy with catholes, the sawdust bucket, and the occasional pit toilet when available.  In economic terms, am I willing to trade ~$900 to get the composting version?  No, I don’t think so anymore.

I’d likely pay half price for a good used one, as some LTVAs require self-containment and those can count, I’m told.
