outside Colorado Springs

The nice thing about being near a city is good cell and OTA reception.

The annoying thing is the plague of locusts poorly-behaved weekenders that descend at once on Friday. Party time! Build crappy smokey fires with green limbs you butcher off trees, shout incessantly, allow your pack of dogs and innumerable/obese hellspawn to run feral through the campsites of others, screaming like they’re being murdered. Leave your newly-opened walmart tent and stove boxes lying around. Break things because you don’t know what you’re doing and leave the broken stuff in the campground. Poop on the ground and leave the toilet paper.

The problem is compounded when there is A View; pic to the right shows Pikes Peak as seen from my spot. I generally try to avoid Views when boondocking for this reason. It’s not that I dislike views, it’s that Views to me aren’t more pleasing than smaller things like pretty rocks, birds, fern fiddleheads, mushrooms, etc.

Muffin

Since I was near a creek at my last spot Muffin got a bath. I lugged 10gal of water from the creek and gave her a thorough wash. She hated it at the time but, as is traditional, lost her mind with joy afterwards. I kept her tethered in grass so she couldn’t roll in dirt until we left later that day.

She is getting less freaked out by toenail maintenance. I’ve been using clippers but find them difficult to control. I needed a dremel anyhow and had excellent results dremeling my greyhound’s nails before so I bought this USB rechargeable rotary tool. She seemed less bothered with it than the clippers and there’s so much more control. You can see exactly how far you’re going because the nail texture an color changes.
