Wednesday

Don’t want to jinx things, but it’s going well so far.

  • stopped raining so I could get out and break camp
  • caught enough in the rain bucket last night to do all the washing that needed doing
  • flies disappeared, so I could break camp with the side and back doors left open – much easier
  • temps moderate so I can come down off the mountain before dark
  • cool temps are because of overcast, so driving now will collect some Watt-hours.

Once in town:

  • stopped to get some supplies at a Mexican grocery (tortillas, a sandwich, etc). They also had Big’s Sizzlin’ Bacon sunflower seeds which I haven’t seen stocked in a couple years. Bought 2 bags. Next item on my treasure hunt: Lance Gold-n-Chees crackers, the One True Cheese Cracker. All others are heretical.
  • there was an Autozone in the parking lot so I got the license plate hardware I was missing and mounted the front plate in the parking lot
  • dumpster right there in the lot. Woot!
  • library easy to get to and WiFi over 2MB/sec, not bad for a lib that’s open and in use. Updating my devices now.

I’m going to make my major grocery run at wally world later this afternoon. Looks like the local community center has $4 showers so I’ll do that in the morning (they’re closed right now). Then fill water and gas and head north.

I’ve got a VA telemedicine video call at 10am so I might come back to the lib to get good bandwidth for it.

Thursday

Successfully made the telehealth appt; stopped in a small town along the way.

Arrived in general boondocking area. Part is CO land and part is NF. Couldn’t find NF land with signal so gave up on signal.

Found a spot with afternoon shade and a rushing creek nearby to harvest water for washing, cooking, etc. Found a spot in the window where the LTE router can sometimes get 1 bar of Verizon. Enough to update this page and the status page if I leave rsync running long enough. Will change to pop3 mail to deal with the intermittency

Loose barky dogs at the next campsite, yay.
